To Secure Your Place
There are two ways to secure your place:
(1) By Paypal – please click the Paypal button above to make a deposit of €150 and then email us to register.
(2) By wire transfer – please email us to register and we will provide you with bank details so that you can send a deposit of €150 via wire transfer.
Our email is: dancingforjoy (AT) live.com. After receiving your deposit we will confirm your registration and send you a standard disclaimer to sign, scan and send back to us. The second and third payments may be made by wire transfer and we will send a reminder each time by email.
Based on our experience receiving payments for past workshops we recommend Transferwise as the best and cheapest way to send wire transfers internationally. For example, a transfer made from USA (and most other countries) will typically cost around 2 or 3 Euros and with exchange rates close to the interbank exchange rate.

- All workshop tuition
- Breakfast, lunch & evening meals
- Accommodation (7 nights in twin/double rooms)
- All transportation within Andorra from arrival at hotel to departure
What it doesn't include
- Travel to/from Andorra (either via train from Paris or flight to Barcelona – easily done for around €175/£125 from most of Europe. See notes below for details).
- Optional activities such as a visit to the famous Caldea spa and thermal baths (€35/ approx £25 for 3 hours).
Languages: English, German
Additional Notes
- We will do as much DUP as the group wants, but likely no less than 14 hours of DUP over the course of the week, both indoors and also in places of natural beauty.
- The hotel we are staying at is known for the excellence of its cuisine and has been MICHELIN Recommended since 2007 and Gourmetour Recommended since 2010.
- All rooms come with a south-facing, south-west-facing or west-facing balcony. A limited number of private single rooms are available for a supplement of €15 / day.
- Weather in the autumn is very sunny, generally very pleasant and perfect for walks. For September/October, average maxmimum temperature is 23°C/19°C (or 73°F/66°F). Average daily hours of sunshine is 6.8 hours/5.8 hours See here and here for more information.
- Participants may enjoy to take the opportunity to explore the world-class city of Barcelona either before or after the Dance & Walk holiday.
- The most ecological way to reach Andorra is by overnight train from Paris, which costs €35/ approx £25 for a sleeper berth when booking a few weeks in advance. You leave Paris just before 10pm and arrive at the station of L'Hospitalet pres l'Andorre around 8:50am. You then immediately hop on the bus which takes you to Andorra La Vella for about €12. Finally, a €2 local bus ride to the hotel. This is a great way to travel and with a touch of adventure.
- For those who prefer to fly, Barcelona is the best way. Return flights to Barcelona cost around €125/£90 from most of Europe. There is a 3 hour bus direct from the airport to Andorra's capital Andorra La Vella that costs €56/£40 return. Finally, a €2 local bus ride to the hotel. Barcelona airport is a major hub that is served frequently each day by low cost airlines such as Easyjet, Ryanair, Germanwings and Vueling. Because of this it is often possible to find cheap flights even just a week or two before travelling to Barcelona, although booking further ahead still helps.
- It is also possible to reach Andorra La Vella direct from Toulouse Airport by 3 hour bus for a similar price as from Barcelona Airport. Similarly Girona Airport (same link).
- Andorra is of course easily reached by car from all parts of mainland Europe.
- Please don't book a flight/train until we confirm to you that we have enough people for the event to run – we aim to be able to do this before June 30th, 2018. Also, before you book your train/flight it is important to take out your own travel insurance – please do this when you book your travel ticket, so you are covered in case you have to cancel for any reason.
The Walks
Andorra remains an undiscovered jewel for most travelers who are more likely to have come for skiing, shopping or just to pass through from France to Spain. In the photographs on this page there are hardly any people and this is no accident! It is not unusual to walk for hours and meet no one else the whole time, and if one does pass other walkers it might only be once or twice in a day.
How difficult are the walks?
Not difficult. The Andorran government has four categories of difficulty: easy, medium, long, long technical. We will stick with mostly easy & medium, especially at the beginning of the week. As the week progresses we will start to move into the slightly longer walks, likely culminating in a couple of long category walks near the end of the week (third category but not the fourth), depending on what the group wants and feels capable of by that point.
How much walking will we be doing?
A moderate amount. Probably between 3 to 5 hours in a day depending on the length of the walk, with breaks and dances along the way. The longest walk by the end of the week will be no more than 12km or 7 1/2 miles. The aim will not be to get from A to B as quickly as possible but rather to savor and enjoy being in nature and to walk at a moderate pace that is comfortable for the group.
Can I come on the holiday even if I cannot walk so much?
Yes. If you are unable to hike up to 12km / 7 1/2 miles you are still very welcome to join us. Since most of the walks are easily accessible from the hotel it means there is the possibility to accompany the group for part of the day and part of the walk – as much as you feel able and comfortable to do – and then return a bit earlier to the hotel.
Even if you are not fit enough to do all the walks there is still much to be enjoyed during the week: the wonderful dining experience, dancing in the hotel and exploring the beautiful medieval village of Ordino. That said, if you are able to do a bit of training in the weeks before the holiday then that of course can be helpful.
How high will we go?
It depends on the walk but some days up to around 1500–1600m (5000–5250ft), other days up to around 1800–2000m (5900–6500ft).
What equipment do I need to bring?
Just the usual gear you would take to go on a day hike at home: a small backpack to carry a packed lunch, water bottle & snacks. A warm jumper. A fleece hat. A rainproof jacket just in case. Trekking poles. Hiking boots. Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Lip balm, Toilet wipes, etc. You can find many checklists on the internet, such as this one.

“I found the dances and the singing to be a complete shock for me with very powerful feelings of being connected to both the rest of the group and the music. This is one of the best experiences I can remember musically and something I would certainly recommend to others.”
– Lee, Austria (Innsbruck weekend retreat) |
“The energy of the dances, the new friendships, the lovely place we were at, and the intensity of it all is still lingering on... while I'm cycling the kilometres away... while I'm in my sleeping bag watching the stars at night...”
– Eddy, Spain (Barcelona weekend workshop) |
